Amy & Eros in Alaska

Zen

Amy here (again, Eros is apparently a lazy blogger):
We had our day off yesterday, which was fantastic. We drove a couple of hours to Denali National Park, which was, in one word, beautiful. We barely scratched the surface of what the place had to offer, and even that was impressive. We did a 3-hour hike up to a 3,400 foot peak, which isn't that big but not bad for a day hike in sandals. Plus my arse is sore today so it must have been challenging enough. We hit a bit of a rain shower on the way down, which was pleasant and we were still pretty high on nature at that point so it we didn't complain. We saw lots of moose poopies but no moose, although I bonded with some little squirrels who are just the cutest little things and very friendly. After the hike we went to sled dog demonstration, which was cool. They use the dogs in the winter since much of the park is roadless and motor vehicles of any kind aren't allowed, so if someone is in trouble or needs supplies they bring it in by dogsled.

Did you know that Alaskan natives were hauling things around by dogsled 2,500 years ago? Bet you didn't. There will be a quiz at the end of this blog.

So we got back and had a beer on the Chena River in Fairbanks (don't tell anyone), and ran inside the dorm and hid until everyone went to bed. Today we're back to RM life, and it's Clan Night so we'll all be doing interesting things with our students. Although before that they'll be getting a good talking-to on why it's not cool to be failing math.

Hey Amy & Eros,

I've been keeping up with your adventures...it sounds like such an awesome experience!!! Eros, I'm glad that you are finding some people you can actually beat at Texas Holdem! :) Oh, just FYI -- we've lost our last 2 soccer games, and even though you weren't there, you are still getting blamed! :) No, I'm kidding...you are just missed. Amy -- I'm glad to hear all of your many stories! I love that you have so much to say...keep telling all the details...they are fun to read. Also, way to be a hard-ass! You're awesome!

And, just in case you haven't figured out who this is by my "code name"...(how could you not, though? I'm 1/16th irish!)
Jenn
