We made it
This is an email that Amy sent to some people. I thought I would put that first...
Hello Beautiful People,
Sorry about the lack of personal email, but Eros and I
have been incredibly busy up here in the Great White
North that we haven't had much free time for anything.
We should be on a more regular schedule soon, so we'll
have more time for fun writing to all of you
individually. Promise.
Anyway, we've moved into the dorms (ha ha) and have
been enjoying the fresh air and learning how to
navigate the bureacracy of a government program with
beautiful camp counselor smiles. Our students move in
Monday, so thus far we've hauled stuff around, learned
how save their lives through first aid and CPR, and
scheduled a lot of useless meetings. Since there
hasn't been any exciting drama to talk about yet, I
will just give you a little list of interesting things
we've seen/learned so far:
-Coolest/Most Hilarious Town Name Ever: Chicken,
Alaska
-It is worthless to set off fireworks on the 4th of
July here - you can't see them because it's not dark.
They save that for New Year's.
-Coming out of a bar at 11:00 p.m. and having to put
on sunglasses is pretty neat (and confusing)
-The dreaded mosquitos are fat, lazy and
nonthreatening. It's almost a sport to kill them;
however, there are 121 other species that hatch later
in the summer that are much more plague-like and
absolutely heinous. Can't wait.
-There are more people here that live in shacks in the
woods with no indoor plumbing than I've ever heard of.
And they like it.
-Fairbanks has a homeless guy that walks around town
in a thong and heels. Haven't come across this one
yet, but will send pix.
At any rate, we're here, we're safe, it's lovely and
we're having a great time. We hope the same for all of
you, and please write soon!
Amy and Eros
Eros is talking now...
The whole daylight thing is pretty weird. It's 10:45pm right now and it looks like it's 6:00. Last night I went to bed around 12:30 and had to wrap a bandana around my eyes. The other really cool thing is the sky. It's hard to explain, but the sky here is HUGE. It's not something I'll be able to take a picture of, but you just have to believe me...it's monsterous and very beautiful.
Hope everyone is doing well and hopefully this blog experiment will be a success.

hey, Amy and Eros in Alaska!
Good to see you are having a great time in the big north. I hope there will be pictures of the giant vegetables. There had to be a place called "Chicken", somewhere - glad that you found it : )
